"How I Came to Babaji"
In 1991 I began having some difficulties breathing. I first noticed it at Mardi Gras in New Orleans, when, during the excitement on the street I felt my breath catch and had to take huge gulps of air to get my breathing back on track. I had many episodes following this so I spent about 6 months being tested for allergies and asthma. Everything came back negative and I was told it was ‘psychosomatic’. At this point I decided I had to learn to live with it.
About 2 months later I was invited to make an appointment with an astrologer who was coming to town. Initially I refused, saying that my life was going pretty well. At the last minute, without thinking, I picked up the phone and made an appointment to see him. After an hour of listening to confusing astrological terms that I did not understand, I was beginning to wonder why I had decided to do this. As I prepared to leave, I knew! He told me that my chart indicated that I was susceptible to breathing problems and he knew somebody who could help me. He wrote the name of a woman on a piece of paper and handed it to me. As soon as I took it, my entire body was filled with energy (goosebumps) and I felt that I had been plugged into an electrical outlet. I was ‘hooked’ and immediately knew that I had to meet this person.
I finally made contact with her and as I drove towards the appointment I had an inner knowing that my life would never be the same again. I had no idea who she was or what she did, I only knew I had to meet her. As it turned out, she was a rebirther. That night, I had the most amazing experience of my life and it defies description. I remember driving home afterwards and seeing the trees after a rain shower. The roads were glistening and the trees shimmering with raindrops. It was as if I was seeing in color and 3D after living a life of black and white.
I spent the next year working with this woman and during this time I had many experiences of Babaji. He would mostly come to me in my sleep and I would wake up seeing his face. One time I saw my face with the ohm sign on my forehead. Initially I was pretty scared because I had no idea who He was. Over time, I read Shdema Goodman’s book and ‘Autobiography of a Yogi’ and began to realize that I was not ‘crazy’ after all.
Since 1991, my life has changed considerably and I continue to be blessed with the love and support of Babaji, the Divine Mother and my Babaji family. Babaji still comes to me in my dreams but now, not as often. He is usually very playful and in one dream, was wearing a Dr Seuss hat. Whenever I meditate on Him, my heart is filled with such love and joy. I cannot now imagine my life before this meeting with Babaji.
